The teams who have qualified to represent Kent at the Inter Regionals were invited to a Kent Squad Day on Sunday September 7th at GRFC from 11am. The two teams invited by Petanque England to play in the Combined Squad were also invited.

It was a dry but windy day under the Gravesend canopy. Twenty two players arrived at GRFC in good spirits. England international Dean Ashby led the session with players playing games with people they do not normally and each team nominating a captain to lead tactics for a few ends and then swap. Teams were encouraged to discuss tactics and alternative scenarios after each end finished. Three rounds of games were played. After round 2, Tim Edwins collected pizzas on behalf of the KPA, and everyone enjoyed both the food and relaxing in each other’s company. It was good to see inexperienced players seek advice on tactics, techniques, and the weekend ahead generally.

After Round 3 Dean continued to offer more specific individual coaching on pointing and shooting with Jason White and Alex Spillett, also England players, coaching too. This was good preparation for the Inter Regional Championships which take place at Pontin’s Sand Bay, Weston-super-Mare this coming weekend September 13th and 14th.

Good luck to everyone – play your best! Come on Kent!!!
