As the Kent League fixtures approach their conclusion, it is evident that a few remain to be rescheduled. Railway Rising appear to be in a strong position in Division 1. Division 2 is more competitive, with Borstal Mudlarks, Tovil Miners, and Seal engaged in a fierce battle. Division 3 also boasts a formidable contender in Crockenhill Chequers. In Division 4, Ditton maintain a substantial lead due to their upcoming match. Finally, Division 5 is a closely contested affair, with Farriers Arms and Crockenhill Villagers vying for dominance.
Across all levels, there are ongoing battles and competitions.
At the regional level, the qualifiers for this year’s Kent team have been finalised, and the squad will be in action within the next few days. Kent has been requested to provide two additional teams for a Combined squad, with the juniors also well represented. Consequently, 60 players will embark on a remarkable weekend of pétanque against teams from other regions. We extend our best wishes to them all.
At national level, the Home Nations Championship witnessed the participation of 10 out of the 28 players representing England from Kent. The tournament concluded with a successful two-day period for England, as they successfully regained the trophy.
A team of four Kent players, comprising Jason White, Rowland Jones, Dean Ashby and Scott Ashby, (managed by Tim Edwins), represented England at the European Championship Triples held near Barcelona. They achieved a commendable top 16 finish, just missing out on a quarter final place after a 12-13 loss to Denmark.
Additionally, four Kent players will be representing England in the World Men’s and Ladies Doubles, Mixed Doubles & Singles Championships in Rome this September. We are sure they will do us and the country proud.
As can be seen, there are numerous exciting events scheduled for the coming weeks.
Following many years of organising and running the Winter League, Mick Nash has decided to step down and take a break. Consequently, this year’s Winter League will be managed by Tim Edwins, who has agreed to take on the role. Invitations for entries have been sent to all Kent clubs.
The KPA & KPL AGM is approaching, and official notices will be distributed in due course. We encourage all members to attend and address any concerns they may have.
