A steaming hot Sunday at Oxshott on the 29th June was the venue for two of the EuroCup semi final groups.
Group D featured both Kent teams to make it that far, Meadow 1 and Railway Inn. Meadow’s history in the EuroCup semis has been so good winning through to the final for as long as can be remembered, and in the last couple of years going on to win the final. Railway also have a rich history in reaching the semi finals over the years. This year being in the same group as Meadow meant a tough group to win for Railway but second would secure a spot in the PE Trophy.
Railway Inn fell just short, finishing 3rd in the group after losing a key match 2-3 against Anglesey Arms in the morning. Meadow however, stepped it up to win the semi final for yet another year, winning their three matches 4-1, 5-0 and 5-0.
The level of play in the Railway v Meadow was match was outstanding. One end in the mixed doubles had 4 boules pointed within 9 inches of the jack, and 8 shots hit, 4 of which were carreaus! The level of play was the highest quality.
The standard for the day was very high from all involved. Meadow showed their resilience and class making the final with a clear lead. We wish them good luck in the final!
