A report from the Midweek Over 60s “Spring Has Sprung” event, by Barry Menzies:
The over 60’s competition held at Hartley on 26th March open to all KPA members was well attended with 22 players playing in 11 doubles teams. 16 teams had pre-registered for the event, but 5 teams were unable to attend for various reasons.
The midweek event was blessed with warm and sunny weather conditions and yes, sun hats and sunscreen were in use, as you can see from the selection of photographs of the athletes in action below. The format of the day was 2 timed games of 50 minutes in the morning followed by an hour for lunch. This was then followed by 1 timed game and a game of “Bingo Balls” in the afternoon. Want to know more about this format… then come and join in next month!
During the day, three games having had level scores at the end of time, were decided in the one ball for each team show down!
The day started at 10.15am and finished, including presentation of prizes, by 3.15pm.
Discussions during the day focussed on whether Wednesday is the best day to play this event, with summer league games now taking place on Wednesday evenings.
In conclusion; a vote unanimously in favour of moving this popular event to the fourth Friday of the month from April, and renaming it to the Weekday Over 60s Doubles.
