Sunday 20th September saw 20 players enter the Kent Singles & Shooting competitions. There was a nice mix of established players, new faces and juniors. The format was 5 leagues of 4 players, with the winners of each league, plus the 3 best runners-up going through to the gold. The next best 8 were in the silver, and the final 4 in the bronze.
The bronze final was a convincing 13-1 for Alan Munday, who earned his £10 entry fee back in prize money.
The silver competition was full of players who just missed out on the gold by points difference, having 2 wins but not quite making the top 8. The final saw two such players go head to head, Andy Dunstall & Tim Edwins, with the latter coming out on top 13-11 after a tight, tense match.
In the gold, top seed Neil Phillips had convincing wins in the quarters and semis en route to the final. In the other half of the draw it was third seed Matt Horrigan who came out on top to join Neil in the final. The match was a see-saw affair with both players having the lead, but Neil’s consistency eventually giving him a 13-7 win to claim the Kent Singles championship.
After the singles was done the shooting championship started! 13 players chanced their arm in the full Tir de Precision, with the top 4 scores going through to the semi finals. Becky Edwins achieved a personal best score of 28 to take the top seeding, closely followed by Barry Soilleux on 25, Neil Phillips on 16 and Matt Whatley on 11.
In the semi-finals Neil beat Barry 27-11 and Becky beat Matt 16-7. The final saw both players start well, but neither relented and let the other get a big lead. Going into the final round of shooting the jack, Neil had a 22-12 lead, and continued the fine form, hitting 3 of the 4 jacks to add another 11 points to his total to win 33-12.
