The summer season is well and truly underway!
As posted on the 9th April, the national success for the Kent foursome of Dean Ashby, Scott Ashby, Rowland Jones & Jason White is tremendous, and we look forward to watching them at the European Championships in July. Another Kent player, Alex Spillett has got the call up to join the England ladies team! She will join fellow Meadow & Kent player Becky Edwins at the World Championships in October.
So let’s put that in perspective – this year Kent have 6 of the 8 England representatives. What a credit to themselves and the region. The KPA would like to send all our international representatives our best wishes and respect.
There were a few teething problems with the Kent Pétanque League website scorecards and fixtures for the first week or so, but these have been very quickly resolved and the KPL site is back up and running. Bearing in mind they put their free time into all KPL matters, we owe the league officers Mick Nash, David Baxter & Alan Cregeen a big thank you.
Whilst on league matters, Mick Nash has decided although he is keen to stay on as Summer League secretary, that he is long overdue a break and will be stepping down from running the Winter League for 2025/26. So anyone interested in giving up some free time to organise this year’s Winter League please just let Mick, David or Alan know. The league have set up a system they have followed for many years which has proved to be very effective. The principles are pretty much set in stone, in fact I’m sure anyone interested could avail themselves with some of the lessons learned from the vast experience of the KPL officers before any hand over date.
On a new matter, recently there was an opportunity to obtain a portable building for a reasonable price to be used as an indoor boulodrome. Unfortunately, the building was sold before we could ‘get our act together’. I am looking for a small group of people, perhaps 2 or 3, to investigate the potential cost of an appropriate building, the siting of any structure, and running costs. Also, the potential of any grants, sponsorship or funding streams. Anyone with contacts or able to help please get in contact with me!
