This weekend sees the pinnacle of the Pétanque England club tournament come to a conclusion with the EuroCup Finals weekend being held at Nottingham City PC. Kent’s Meadow PC will be present to defend their EuroCup title and try to earn the right to represent PE at the EuroCup finals, again being held at the magnificent Douaisis Boulodrome in northern France this November.

The format is a four team round robin, with the other finalists being River Hamble (Southern), Baldock Town A and Baldock Town B (Chiltern). The winners will be decided by match wins and then games won if tied. A EuroCup match consists of singles, doubles and triples. Singles matches are worth 2 points, doubles 3 points and triples 5 points. So each fixture has a maximum of 31 points on offer, the first team to 16 match points will win the tie. Every game counts.

Also competing at Nottingham on the Sunday, will be Railway Inn PC in the EuroCup Plate final. Having lost in an early EuroCup round against Meadow 2, Railway then dropped into the Plate competition, but battled on and have reached the final four. The Plate is also a round robin, but only consists of Triples & Doubles matches so is just held on the Sunday, with each match finishing 5-0, 4-1 or 3-2. Railway will be up against Trafford (Pétanque North West), Anglesey Arms (Southern) and Penkridge (Heart of England).

As well as playing representation, Kent also have umpiring representation, with newly qualified umpire Martin Pennell (Earl Grey) in attendance to keep all the players in check during the weekend!

We wish all Kent players and officials the very best of luck for the weekend and hope Kent can bring home the EuroCup double!

Look out for some live streaming on the Petanque365 Facebook page over the weekend.
