Welcome to 2025 here with Kent Pétanque, and I wish you all a happy new year!
The KPL Winter League is reaching the half way stage, and preparation for the 2025 Summer season has already begun. The Winter Cup & Plate are progressing well, with the quarter finals now played and the semi finals scheduled for early February.
The Kent Playing Committee continue their work behind the scenes and are now ‘on the case’ compiling the KPA calendar now that PE have published theirs. Should any club wish to host an open competition please contact a committee member so the calendar can be set, avoiding any clashes where possible. We are aiming to have the playing calendar finalised and published after our management committee meeting on 30th January.
The Kent Big Weekend in August is a weekend for all, so please do look at each day’s competition format and join in if you can. Check advertising and flyers for full details in the coming months.
There have been some great initiatives during this off-season to encourage play during the winter. The biweekly Friday Fun at GRFC and a monthly Over 60s Doubles competition at Hartley. These events are for those wishing to ‘keep their hand in’ when the cold evenings can get a bit too much, and are great events and very well run.
My thanks to all those working behind the scenes to maintain the momentum of the KPA moving forward into 2025. I’m sure it wont be long before the KPL are sending out feelers for the teams for Summer League, so it might be advantageous to all for some early contact from club captains to secure players for the summer. Perhaps preparing for a friendly or two before the season starts.
As ever, all the latest news, events, reports and more will be published on the Kent website.
