Eight Kent doubles teams entered for the Kent Doubles Championship on Sunday 19th July at Lordswood PC. A nice number of entries from an organisational point of view, the format was two groups of four teams, with the top two in each group going through to the gold semi finals, and the bottom two in each group in the silver semi finals.

In what proved to be a group of death, Becky & Alex, Dean & Kai, and Duncan & Rowland all finished on two wins each, so it came down to points difference! Becky & Alex topped the group on +8, Dean & Kai finished 2nd by the barest of margins with +6, compared to Duncan & Rowland’s +5.

The other group was somewhat more straightforward, with Geoff & Jason winning 3 out of 3 to win the group. Second place came down to the final match in the group, between Andy & Tim and Keith & Trevor. It was an epic battle, on a tricky piste, which eventually saw Keith & Trevor claim their place in the gold with a 13-12 win!

In the gold semi finals, Geoff & Jason beat Dean & Kai 13-3, while Becky & Alex beat Keith & Trevor 13-5, setting up an all Meadow final. Becky & Alex were quick out of the blocks, picking up 3 in the first end. And they didn’t relent, dominating the match and running out 13-2 winners.

The silver final couldn’t have been closer, another long battle, in which Duncan & Rowland overcame Barry & Vaso 13-12!

The tournament was well umpired again by Martin Pennell. Thanks to Martin for giving up his day. Thanks also go to Gavin, Clive & Suzie from Lordswood PC for setting up, hosting an ensuring things ran smoothly all day.

Congratulations and good luck to Becky & Alex and Geoff & Jason, who will represent Kent at the PE Champion of Champions Doubles in October.
