A bright, sunny morning on 13th April greeted the 10 doubles’ teams who registered by 9.30am on Sunday. There were 5 teams from Hartley, 2 from Crockenhill and 1 from Isted Rise and Earl Grey and a mixed Meadow/Railway pairing. The format was 2 leagues (of 6 and 4) to guarantee everyone at least 4 games over the day. After lunch the top 4 teams would move into the gold and the next 6 into silver.

Competitive, friendly matches in the morning finished with Alex and Fay and Becky and Carolyn topping the 2 leagues. The two Crockenhill teams of Sonia and Carol and Jane and Alison both finished runners up in their groups; these 4 teams made up the 4 teams in the gold.

In the semi finals, Alex and Fay beat Sonia and Carol, and Becky and Carolyn beat Jane and Alison. In the final Becky and Carolyn moved 7-4 ahead but a steady run of points saw Alex and Fay emerge as winners 13-7 in biblical rain just after 4pm.

Thank you to players who took shelter and stayed to watch the gold and silver finals. Hartley teams took a clean sweep in the silver – Jean and Hilda were runners up and the overall silver winners were Gill and Lois. Winners and runners up in both gold and silver won a bottle of wine. Thank you to the KPA for providing the wine and Hartley for hosting the event. A special mention to Alex for promoting the event and organising on the day.

Ten entries entitles Kent to send 2 teams to the IWD National Finals Day on June 7th at Whitnash. Congratulations to Alex & Fay and Becky & Carolyn who will represent Kent at the National Finals!

Please consider taking part next year ladies! The more entries we have the more teams qualify to represent Kent. Entry is free and you might win a bottle of wine!
