On what was a bright but chilly early autumn day 14 teams registered for the Kent League Handicap competition. An improvement on last year but still a slightly disappointing number. As is usual, the organisers and the Kent League supplemented cash prizes, which will be paid to the winning clubs represented prior to the AGM in November.
The full prize fund was £210 and an additional 21 bottles of wine were distributed on the day to the various winners. Every team enjoyed six matches, and from a 9:30 am start time, the entire competition was finished by around 4:30pm. Thanks to all who attended and to Hartley PC for hosting.
The winning triple was Becky Edwins, Tim Edwins & Rowland Jones (Bat & Ball / Meadow), beating the Railway trio of Dean Ashby, Kai Sheffield & Jason White 13-3 in the final. Joint third place was shared by the teams of Jean Olley, Dennis Greenland & Jan Greenland (Hartley) and Craig Poynter, Barry Menzies & Carolyn Edwins (Hartley / GRFC / Bat & Ball).
The Silver competition final saw the Ditton team of Simon Witherden, Theo Reeves & John Lambert beat GRFC team Margaret Baxter, John West & Dave Mowl. In third place were Mike Capelin, Deborah Capelin & Chris Parrett from Harrow.
Thanks to Mick Nash, KPL Secretary, for running the event, and producing this report.
