Meadow PC retained their PE EuroCup title after a fine weekend of pétanque in Leicester over the 17th & 18th August. Four teams contested the final – Meadow, Baldock Town, River Hamble & London.

A great first day saw comfortable wins for Meadow against River Hamble and then London. This set up a fascinating final day showdown against Baldock Town, who had also beaten River Hamble & London on day 1.

The winner takes all clash started well for Meadow, with Becky Edwins, Kai Sheffield, Reece Gould & David Plumhoff all winning their singles matches to see Meadow take the singles round 4-2, giving them an 8-4 lead on match points. Great wins in the doubles for Rowland Jones & Reece Gould and Kai Sheffield & Jason White added to Meadow’s lead, leaving the match finely poised at 14-7 going into the triples round. Meadow would need to win at least one of the two triples matches to win the EuroCup.

Both matches turned out to be very tight affairs. Becky Edwins, Reece Gould & David Plumhoff went into a commanding 9-0 lead, but Baldock battled back to be 12-9 up. An incredible final few ends saw the Meadow trio stay in the game and eventually close out a 13-12 win to win the title!

Meadow will now travel to Sin-le-Noble in France this November to represent England at the CEP EuroCup finals. We wish them the very best of luck!

The Meadow 2 squad were also in action at Leicester on Sunday 18th August, and a great day saw them win the EuroCup Plate, capping off a fine day for the Kent club.

Meadow 1 Squad: Becky Edwins, Kai Sheffield, Federico Faucher, Rowland Jones, Dean Ashby, Jason White, Reece Gould, David Plumhoff, Alex Spillett.
