Chairman’s Spring Update

Progress

The clocks went forward a couple of weeks ago which is the sign of the beginning of the Summer season. We have had a couple of rounds of the league and next week is the first round proper of the cup.

But first I must thank Tim for running the Winter league this time round. I’m not sure the regular player actually appreciates the work that goes on behind the scenes when running a league. I’d like to thank all the Kent Pétanque League team for the time and enthusiasm for our sport.

This year we welcome a new team to the league, Hythe Petanque Club, and there have been a couple of venue changes. They have been updated on the website thanks to Alan.

On a wider theme The KPA playing committee have been hard at work reviewing Kent organised competition rules and much earlier this year firming up venues for those KPA competitions. This seems the appropriate time to thank the clubs from those venues for their support. In relation to those competitions Tim often puts himself forward to run them on the day. If anyone fancies sharing the load please let us know.

Now for the good stuff – Dean Ashby and Kai Sheffield have qualified for the European singles, doubles & mixed doubles in Spain this June! Congratulations to them both and good luck.

The England triples qualifier weekend is also now upon us. Many Kent players are in Leicester to try and earn England representation. For the men it’s the World Championship in November in Thailand and the women have the European Championship in Greece in October to look forward to. Good luck to all our Kent players.

On a more general note, some may have seen the new Petanque England Events committee have been hard at work for 2027 already. It is great to see that there are 3 enthusiastic Kent players on the new panel! The KPA wish them all the best for the future and thank them for their efforts.
