Nine players gathered on a balmy summer’s evening at The Railway Inn to contest the Kent Shooting Championship. Everyone completed the full precision shooting event, and the top four scorers progressed to the semi finals.
The semi finals and final were played as head to head matches, with each player taking it in turn to shoot. In the first semi final, Becky Edwins, improved on her qualification score of 12, to score 17, which proved enough to beat Steve Golder‘s total of 12. The other semi final was a nervy and low scoring affair, but saw last year’s champion Barry Soilleux overcome Tim Edwins 7-3.
In the final, Barry started well, scoring 10 points in the first round against Becky‘s 5. Becky continued to shoot consistently, scoring at least 3 in the next three rounds. Going into the final round of hitting the jack, the score was 22-19 to Becky. Both players missed the first jack shot, but Becky hit the second to score another 3, meaning Barry had to hit 2 out of his last 3 shots to stay in it. Barry threw a couple of great boules that landed just next to the jack each time but did not move it, leaving Becky with an unassailable 25-19 lead.
Many thanks to The Railway PC for setting up and hosting the event, in particular Fay & Steve Golder, who helped from start to finish, ensuring a smooth and well run event. The full scores are available below.
