Sunday 20th October saw the rearranged KPL Division 3 and Below doubles competition take place at GRFC. With the wet and windy conditions, we were all very thankful for the shelter of the roof which helped to make the day enjoyable for all! Although we had hoped for more teams, representatives from Harrow, Railway, Ditton & Crockenhill battled it out in a round robin format across the day, taking the top two teams through to the final.

The round robin was a close fought contest with three teams, losing only one match each, being ranked on points difference to find the top two. Carol and Roy from Crockenhill just missed out on the final with 4 wins, +6. With Mike and Debs from Harrow and Sonya and Brian from Crockenhill going through with 4 wins, +26 and +22 points, respectively.

The final gave an opportunity for some live streaming to the Kent Pétanque Facebook page; it’s always nice to see a wide variety of players getting the opportunity to be watched by other players who have not been able to attend the event in person. The teams in the final did not disappoint, some excellent pointing and shooting was displayed by both teams showing the depth of talent throughout the Kent divisions. The nip and tuck final finished 13-12 with Sonya and Brian taking the win for Crockenhill.

Thanks to Keith Atkinson for setting up the terrains today and thanks to all who participated. I hope the live stream and the friendly competitive atmosphere encourages more teams to take part next time round!
